Modern Kitchen & Laundry Remodel

Designed & Built by

Bright, Modern Kitchen
We added an efficient L-Shaped Peninsula while keeping the eating area open and airy. Light Gray laminate cabinets combine with 2-cm honed grey quartz counters. Oak flooring and a lighted oak soffit warm the neutral palette.

My client’s 30-year old kitchen and adjacent laundry room were tired and falling apart. They live in a neighborhood of relatively traditional homes in Bethesda, Maryland — a neighborhood close to Washington, DC. They wanted a complete re-do with something ultra modern but with a touch of warmth.

After showing them several alternatives – 2 of which substantially changed the layout of the kitchen – they opted for a layout that was similar to their original layout but with appliances moved to more efficient locations and with more counter space and storage.  They also substantially upgraded their lighting and appliances.  We replaced ceramic tile flooring with oak hardwood color-matched to the rest of the home.

An narrow oak soffit — matching the flooring — is set off by LED cove lighting.

Many custom touches make the kitchen exceedingly efficient and well-tuned to my client’s lifestyle.

Bright, Warm, Modern Kitchen
Double ovens, a coffee & sandwich center, and full column freezer were taken out of the main work area.

The 6-burner cooktop and oversized hood make both cooking for the family and frequent catered affairs almost effortless.

A full column refrigerator, built-in microwave and ultra-large sink add to the functionality of the kitchen. All the appliances are fully integrated including trash compactor and dishwasher in this view.
Bright, Modern Kitchen
Virtually all base cabinets have drawers — making retrieving cookware easy even for this retired couple. The distance between counters allows for multiple catering personnel to work together.
Bright, Modern Kitchen
The cabinets, counters, and backsplash are all impervious to stains and all in a complementary shade of light grey-taupe.
Neutral Palette
The neutral palette helps bring the Japanese Garden just outside the picture window into the space.
Suspended Cabinets; Cove Lighting
The cabinets above the peninsula are suspended the same height as the soffit – helping the room feel open. Lighting above the cabinets and within the soffit area brightens the whole space.
Custom Message Niche
2 custom, lighted niches – at each entrance – are equipped with color-matched magnetic glass white boards, charging stations, and message centers.
Coffee Prep Area with Sink Grate
A custom stainless steel grate – flush with the counter – and a wall-mounted faucet in the coffee area extends the useful counter area.
Kalista Sink
The 45” wide Kalista sink has several accessories including a colander that fits within the top recess.
Remote Controlled Shade
The remoted-controlled Lutron solar shade lowers to block harsh winter glare without blocking out the views.
Custom, Fitted Drawer Dividers
Custom drawer dividers are fitted to my client’s flatware.
Updated Laundry Room
The adjacent laundry room can be glimpsed from the kitchen and was updated with the same materials as the kitchen.
