The Project:
The
1930's brick and stone tutor was in a terrific
park-like setting but the house was completely
closed off from the outside and had small dark
rooms.
We
created a modern, open floor plan with long
sight-lines through the house and outside.
Converting several windows to doors and painting
dark paneling white brought loads of light into the
formerly dark interior.
The best
view is in front of the house but zoning prohibited
us from building in front. Instead we designed
and built a stone terrace with open rafters for a
ceiling. Landscaping will soon yield a private
garden room in front of the house with killer views.
The kitchen was
enlarged and while still a galley has generous
counter space, modern appliances, concrete
countertops, and a stone and glass backsplash.
Even more important the kitchen is now the center of
the house and within easy listening to the
children's playroom in the basement.
