The Project:
A 1940's
modest colonial was in need of updating. The
kitchen had been previously enlarged with a small
addition but was still cramped and separated from
the rest of the house. A second addition was
rarely used except as a passage because it was
narrow and awkward.
The wall
between the kitchen and dining room was opened up so
that we could make a table-space kitchen. The
majority of the kitchen functions were moved to the
old dining room. A door to the outside
replaced a window in the old kitchen area.
This door was centered on the front door and a
doorway was cut in the living room wall. Now
as you walk in the front door, you can look out to
landscaped back yard. It brings much needed
light and long views as well as creating better
traffic patterns.
The
formerly underused addition was converted to an
intimate formal dining room.
