The Project: |
| The 1920s-era house
had a small galley kitchen with just three feet of
workspace. Located at the back of the house it
was dark and inefficient. Zoning setbacks and
the cost of moving the powder room prohibited
expansion. |
| Removing the wall
separating the kitchen from the dining room and
re-arranging the doorways to the living room and
basement provided ample room for an efficient
table-space kitchen. |
| Light streams in from
new windows and a new side French door. The
materials pallet and high-level of detail lends the
feel of a living space suitable for entertaining. |
| Cobalt is the owner's
favorite color but it always overpowered the
airiness she craved. We used it liberally on
large accent pieces (such as the island) But then we
muted it with the gray-toned whites in the cabinets,
the stainless, concrete counters, and tumbled
carrara marble. |
