After we were almost finished with construction, my client said she would love to have shelter at the new back door to her home. Previously she had asked us to maximize the daylight coming in that side so we had designed beautiful trapezoidal windows for the gable-end of the former garage – cum – kitchen. While there are many contemporary low-profile awnings available, this is a Tudor-Revival home where we were taking pains with traditional details. After a trip to my local metalworker, I designed this low-profile, traditional awning made of copper and iron. It doesn’t block light and still provides shelter.
